All-Time Favorite Yarns
Let’s be honest: Knitting is a sport and so is Yarn Collecting. If you enjoy making things out of yarn, then the selection of that yarn is directly proportional to the success of the project. And I KNOW that as a beginner it’s hard to decide what yarn you should use, and for what project. Below is my all-time favorite yarn list, with a little description for each as well as a quick list of the ideal projects based on the weight and texture of the yarn. Enjoy!
*Red Heart Hygge
Hygge is AN EXPERIENCE! The description for this yarn from the brand says “Inspired by the Danish concept of coziness, comfort and warm relationships, Hygge evokes feelings of well-being and contentment.” I mean if that doesn’t sell this yarn for you, I don’t know what does!
⋐ Size: It’s a bulky weight 5, but has the distinct fuzzy halo that until recently only mohair could provide. For this reason, it’s a great yarn for beginner knitters. The fuzziness of it tends to blur stitch definition, therefore your mistakes are more easily hidden. For this reason, I’d steer clear of cable knitting for this yarn, since you can’t really see the cables you worked so hard to make!
⋐ Feel: Hygge is one of the softest yarns I’ve ever felt, and given proper care it remains soft for years to come (literally, I’ve had my first Cloud Cardigan for years and she’s still one of my favorites - she also has big ass brown splotches from an incident in Aspen, more on that later).
⋐ Price: Varies by color, but this is a really affordable yarn for larger projects! I used 6 balls to make my loose fitting Cloud Cardigan.
*Wonderfluff
Wonderfluff first appeared on my radar after a ton of knitting ladies I love on Instagram started raving about this fiber. I had to see what the fuss was about so I picked up a few skeins and… wow. Exceeded my expectations 100%. This yarn is perfect for snuggly scarves, sweaters and beanies. I’m obsessed!
⋐ Size: It’s a bulky weight 5, so it works up fast and utilizes some of your larger needles (I like a tight gauge though so I don’t go any bigger than 9mm needles with this yarn personally).
⋐ Feel: Wonderfluff is surprisingly bouncy and soft. It has a halo similar to mohair much like Hygge, but this fiber is made of Alpaca, Merino Wool and Nylon.
⋐ Price: $8.99 per skein, so it’s pretty affordable if you’re going for a luxe yarn feel without the $20-$30 price tag. Make away my lovelies!
*Swish Worsted
Swish Worsted is another Knit Picks knockout (def coining the term for that). In addition to being super soft, it’s washable! 100% Superwash Merino means softness and durability. Another favorite thing about this yarn for me is THE COLORS 🌈 There are so so many to choose from (highlighter yellow pictured here).
⋐ Size: It’s a worsted weight 4, and works up relatively fast ( I use this yarn with 6.0mm needles but they suggest slightly smaller ones).
⋐ Feel: Swish is surprisingly soft, I truly would not rep a yarn that does not pass the neck test (hold the skein of yarn to your neck, if it feels comfortable and there’s no itch at all that’s a pass!).
⋐ Price: $5.99 per skein, making this a great yarn for larger scale projects since it’s so affordable.

*Feels Like Butta
Feels Like Butta 100% lives up to the name. If you’re a fan of chenille, you are going to LOVE this soft (and inexpensive) fiber. It’s soft, warm, and machine washable. What’s not to love! Feels Like Butta is the least expensive of all my fave yarns, and yet it’s a yarn I come back to multiple times a year for knitting the coziest pieces.
⋐ Size: It’s a worsted weight 4, and works up relatively fast ( I use this yarn with 6.0mm needles but they suggest slightly smaller ones).
⋐ Feel: The name says it all… it feels like butter! Knitting with Feels Like Butta is smooth, and the squish factor is very real. This yarn can easily be knit on small needles for more rigid form, or larger ones for more drape.
⋐ Price: $11.99 for a 3 pack, which is an AMAZING price. That’s enough yarn for a sweater in almost any size.

*Premier Everyday DK
This anti-pilling yarn is NO JOKE. It’s soft enough for baby clothes, therefore it’s soft enough for me! And this is another yarn with an incredible color selection, including so many solid colors as well as some multi’s if you’re looking for that self-striping look (self striping yarn is a great way to introduce multiple colors to your projects without ANY work, the colors change for you, yay).
⋐ Size: It’s a DK weight 3, and works up relatively fast (I’d use this yarn with 6.0mm needles or smaller).
⋐ Feel: This one passes the neck test with flying colors! I’ve used this yarn for baby beanies as well as some top down sweaters that I am so in love with, the softness is everything!
⋐ Price: $4.49 per skein, making this another amazing yarn for larger projects like sweaters or blankets.
I’ll keep adding to this list when I find a yarn I absolutely love.
